[Sūtra:] "'Subhūti, all motes of dust the Tathāgata speaks of as non-motes of dust; these are named motes of dust.'"
This is the second [part], determining that the superior surpasses the inferior. The text again has two parts: first, determining in terms of effect; second, determining in terms of cause. This is the first. "All motes of dust" refers to the indeterminate dust of the world-system. "The Tathāgata speaks of as non-motes of dust" means they are not like the defiled dust of affliction produced by the merit of giving. "These are named motes of dust" means they are the motes of dust of earth and the other [elements].
