[Sūtra:] "That is to say, giving without abiding in forms, and giving without abiding in sounds, scents, tastes, touchables, or dharmas:" The third section clarifies practicing without abiding in karmic retribution. That is, not seeking future fruits such as rebirth as a human or heavenly being. Because this fruit repays the cause, it is called karmic retribution. The six sense-objects and so forth are the substance of future fruition; practicing giving for their sake is called clinging to karmic retribution. The bodhisattva's being far removed from them is called "not abiding in forms and so forth".
