Having explained being far removed from the joy of the supreme ultimate truth, next [the text] explains the second [matter], being fully endowed with all sufferings, which reveals the objective sphere of compassion. In it there are twenty clauses: [the first ten] are the causes of suffering, namely karma, afflictions, and so forth, while the latter ten clauses reveal the fruits of suffering. Both sets of clauses, causes and fruits, are the objective sphere of compassion. Herein there is no self; by means of the teaching it reflects emptiness. Among the ten clauses on causes: 'the mind falling into wrong views' is the general [clause], and the remaining nine are specific. (1) 'Wicked intention, wrong views, ignorance, and dark delusion' is one; (2) haughtiness; (3) thirsting craving; (4) deceitfulness; (5) jealousy; (6) accumulating karma, from 'great accumulation' onwards; (7) blowing the fire of the sinful mind; (8) generating karma, wrong views, having something performed; (9) seeds of mind, thought, and consciousness, wrong views, and the flow of desire. Among these, the first three wrong views are falsely conceived in reliance on doctrines and meanings. The next two are deceitfulness and jealousy; these two wrong views are faults of mental functioning at the time of seeking. From the sixth onwards, the four kinds of wrong views consist in cultivating wholesome roots and so forth being with outflows.
