The third sub-clause explains the lack of righteousness to encourage cultivation. It runs from 'People of the world, fathers, sons, and brothers' down to 'what joy is there to desire?' 'They should mutually respect and love one another, and not harbor hatred and jealousy': encouraging them to cultivate goodness, study propriety and righteousness, recognize high and low, senior and junior, and together cultivate the wholesome Way to be born in the pure land of the Western Direction. 'If there is anger and resentment, in this life the grudge is slight with mutual jealousy, but in future lives it becomes progressively worse': this explains that unrighteous people harbor mutual jealousy in the present life, already incurring immeasurable grave offenses, and in future lives it worsens, falling into the three evil destinies and the hells without respite.
