1.37

第七段明總結五痛五燒勸修。從佛告彌勒菩薩吾語如等訖古今有是痛哉可傷。總結勸修所以來者。上明五痛五燒違負五戒起於重惡。現世受報得貧窮下賤六根不具。後世受報必墮三塗地獄之中。是以勸令修善令免此苦。是以總結勸修來也。

The seventh section explains the general conclusion on the five sufferings and five burnings to encourage cultivation. From "The Buddha told Maitreya Bodhisattva: 'I tell you [and others]...'" down to "...From ancient times to the present there has been this; it is painful and pitiable!" As for the reason the general conclusion encouraging cultivation occurs: above, it explained that the five sufferings and five burnings violate the five precepts and give rise to heavy evils, receiving retribution in the present life as being poor, base, and with incomplete sense faculties, and receiving retribution in future lives surely falling into the three paths and hells. Therefore, it encourages causing them to cultivate goodness so as to avoid this suffering; thus comes the general conclusion encouraging cultivation.
