Sūtra: “If other countries invade and disturb [...] reverent, respectful, and esteeming.”
Second: Encountering difficulties from another country. That is, when malevolent kings and others of other lands, coveting royal power, invade and pillage feudal territories and terrify the common people, these are difficulties from another country. Due to reciting the name of Bhaiṣajyaguru Tathāgata, rebellious thieves from other directions cannot cause harm. Regarding “reverent, respectful, and esteeming”: yielding humbly in awe of difficulty is called “reverent” (gōng); deferring to his wisdom and virtue is called “respectful” (jìng); having virtue surpassed by none among all beings is called “honoured” (zūn); and holding a mind of awe and veneration that exceeds that for one's parents is called “esteeming” (zhòng).
