四以法付阿難中。分別有四。一佛勅阿難令其宣通。二阿難奉命受持。三阿難請問經名。四佛制經名普令修學。此名維摩所說者。就人立名。道理此經多人共說。而佛偏名維摩說者。機在維摩故偏言也。亦名不可思議者。就法立名也。

In the fourth part, entrusting the Dharma to Ānanda, there are four distinctions: 1. The Buddha commands Ānanda to make it widely known; 2. Ānanda obeys the command to receive and uphold it; 3. Ānanda asks for the sūtra's title; 4. The Buddha establishes the sūtra's title, universally causing people to cultivate and study it. "This is named 'What is Spoken by Vimalakīrti'": the name is established based on the person. In principle, this sūtra was spoken jointly by many people, yet the Buddha specifically named it as spoken by Vimalakīrti because the focal capacity lay with Vimalakīrti; hence it is specifically so stated. "It is also named 'Inconceivable'": the name is established based on the Dharma.
