"It is suffering, it is affliction, a collection of myriad sicknesses. Virtuous sirs, such a body is something the wise do not rely upon." This is the second, the contemplation of suffering. The dharmakāya is constant bliss, born from outflow-free causes; thus one recognizes that causes possessing outflows give rise to a body whose nature is inherently suffering. When one sees this principle of suffering, the fruit of the path is born from it. If one waits for whippings, floggings, wounds, and injury before seeing suffering, that is not the principle of suffering. Illness and affliction succeed one another, so the wise do not rely on it—'rely' means to depend upon or trust in.
