"'That dharmas are fundamentally unignited and now have no extinction is the meaning of tranquil extinction.'" Sengzhao says: The Hinayana takes the three realms as blazing and extinguishes them to seek the unconditioned. Once the blazing has taken shape, the name "extinction" arises. The Mahayana observes that dharmas are fundamentally unignited—what is there now to extinguish? Being unignited and unextinguished is true tranquil extinction.
