假使作相則與外道五通等　此二難也。二乘依四禪得五通。與外道等也。肇曰。外道修俗禪得五通。然不能出凡夫見聞之境也。此有作相也。欲等之乎。

"If it were conditioned, it would be equal to the five superknowledges of the tīrthikas." This is the second, the refutation. The two vehicles attain the five superknowledges relying on the four dhyānas, which is equal to the tīrthikas. Sengzhao says: "Tīrthikas cultivate mundane dhyāna and attain the five superknowledges, yet they cannot transcend the sphere of an ordinary person's seeing and hearing. This has conditioned characteristics. Would you wish to be equal to them?"
