觀世音菩薩 什曰。世有危難稱名自歸菩薩。觀其音聲即解脫也。亦名觀世念。亦名觀世自在。
"Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva," Kumārajīva says: "When the world faces crisis or difficulty, they invoke his name and take refuge in the bodhisattva; he observes their voices and immediately brings liberation. He is also named Guanshi'nian (Observing the World's Thoughts) and Guanshizizai (Contemplating the World Sovereignly)."
