The deva said: "Do not say these flowers are not in accordance with the Dharma. Why is this? These flowers have no discrimination; it is the benevolent one himself who gives rise to the marks of discrimination." This is the rebuking text, in four parts: first, clarifying that flowers have no discrimination; second, clarifying what accords and does not accord with the Dharma; third, clarifying that bodhisattvas do not cling; fourth, that the two vehicles immediately cling. This is the first. [Kumāra]jīva says: "The nature of flowers is fundamentally non-dual; hence they have no discrimination." [Dao]sheng says: "The nature of flowers has no substantial reality; how could there be a discrimination between according or not according with the Dharma?" Sengzhao says: "How could the flowers have a mind regarding falling or not falling? The thought of discrimination comes merely from the person."
