"The gardens and parks of dhāraṇī,
The trees of the forest of undefiled dharmas,
The pure and wonderful flowers of the factors of awakening,
The fruits of liberation and wisdom;
The bathing pool of the eight liberations,
Filled to the brim with the water of concentration,
Spread with the flowers of the seven purifications,
Bathes this undefiled person." From here downward clarifies the provisions for life. 'Dhāraṇī' is the principle of the true mark. 'Undefiled' is the forest and trees of the myriad practices. These trees bloom with the flowers of the seven factors of awakening and bear the fruits of liberation. [Kumāra]jīva says: "Liberation is the unconditioned fruit; wisdom is the conditioned fruit. This clarifies wisdom. The pool of the eight liberations holds the water of meditative concentration, unfolding the flowers of the seven purifications. When the feverish vexations of the five desires, craving, and all the dusts are bathed in this, they become cool and refreshed. This verse clarifies concentration. The seven purifications are: first, purity of precepts; second, purity of mind; third, purity of view; fourth, purity by overcoming doubt; fifth, purity by discernment; sixth, purity of practice; seventh, purity of nirvāṇa." Zhao says: "Dhāraṇī is strong mindfulness, the park of myriad goods. In this park, he plants the forest of undefilement, unfolds the flowers of the seven factors of awakening, and bears the fruits of liberation. The pool of the eight liberations gathers the water of meditative concentration, filled to the brim, with the flowers of the seven purifications spread and arrayed across the water. Furthermore, this undefiled person roams in this forest, park, and flower pool, leisurely banqueting and disporting with utmost joy—how could it be equal to the pleasures of worldly gardens?"
