時化菩薩以滿鉢香飯與維摩詰。飯香普熏毘耶離城及三千大千世界　此三飯作佛事有二。初香。後味。前中又三。此受香普熏。彼熏十方。此但三千緣應爾也。

Then the emanation bodhisattva gave the bowl full of fragrant food to Vimalakīrti. The fragrance of the food universally perfumed the city of Vaiśālī and the great trichiliocosm. (This is the third part, the food performing the Buddha's work, which has two sections: first the fragrance, then the flavor. The former also has three parts: this is the receiving of the fragrance and its universal perfuming. There, it perfumed the ten directions; here, it reaches only the trichiliocosm, as conditions warrant.)
