維摩詰言。此土菩薩於諸眾生大悲堅固。誠如所言。然其一世饒益眾生。多於彼國百千劫行　此四述誠。不述佛者道力圓也。文二。此初述益。深化善則功少。化惡則功深。叡曰。久而無功未。若近而有益。

Vimalakīrti said: "The great compassion of the bodhisattvas of this land toward sentient beings is firm and solid, truly as you have said. Yet their benefiting sentient beings in a single lifetime surpasses hundreds of thousands of kalpas of practice in that land." (Fourth, affirming the truth. The reason he does not affirm the Buddha is that the Buddha's path-power is complete. The text has two parts; this is the first, explaining the benefit. To transform the good deeply brings little merit, but to transform the evil brings deep merit. Sengrui says: "Practicing long without merit is not as good as being near at hand and producing benefit.")
