2.51

當識宿世無數劫苦。當念饒益一切眾生　此三追往念益以自喻也。肇曰。當尋宿世更苦無量。今苦須臾何足致憂。但當力疾救彼苦耳。生曰。念欲饒益一切眾生者。方入生死不得有畏也。

"One should recognize the suffering of past lives over countless kalpas; one should be mindful of benefiting all sentient beings." This is the third, recalling the past and being mindful of benefiting [others] to console oneself. [Seng]zhao says: "One should reflect that past lives experienced immeasurable suffering; how could the present suffering of a moment be worth grieving over? One must only exert oneself through illness to rescue them from that suffering." [Dao]sheng says: "Being mindful of desiring to benefit all sentient beings, as one enters birth and death, one must not have fear."
