"The Dharma of amṛta is his food; / The taste of liberation is his syrup; / Purifying the mind, he bathes; / The assortment of precepts is his fragrant ointment." / The Dharma food of amṛta nourishes wisdom and understanding; the syrup of the eight liberations quenches the thirst of the five desires: these two are internal sustenance. Repenting sinful defilements bathes the true body; strictly holding the fragrance of the precepts anoints and perfumes the Dharma-body: this is called external adornment. This, then, is the cultivation and upholding of body, precepts, mind, and wisdom through expedient means.
