The Bodhisattva Śrîgarbha said, "Having something to attain and characteristics constitute duality. If there is nothing to attain, there is neither grasping nor discarding. Having neither grasping nor discarding is entering the dharma gate of non-duality."
Sengzhao says, "Attainment lies in the self; characteristics lie in the other. When the self does not attain characteristics, who grasps and who discards?" Another explanation says, "Regarding dharmas, having attainment and depending on objects constitutes duality. If there is nothing to attain, there is no duality."
