Thereupon the elder leader Candracchattra, followed by eighty-four thousand people, came into Vimalakīrti's house. Seeing the vast number of bodhisattvas in the room and the lion seats tall, wide, majestic, and splendid, they all rejoiced greatly, bowed to the assembly of bodhisattvas and the great disciples, and stood to one side. The earth spirits, sky spirits, and gods of the desire and form realms, having smelled this fragrance, also all came into Vimalakīrti's house. (Third, those with conditions gather. Sengzhao says: "The country of Vaiśālī has no sovereign ruler; only five hundred elders jointly govern the affairs of state. Candracchattra is praised and respected by the multitude, hence he is called 'leader'. From 'the earth spirits' onward, all assemble after smelling the fragrance.")
