The specific conditions are five: 1. A senior bhikṣu—distinguishing from a śrāmaṇera, which is not an offense because they are not of the same category of practice; 2. previously giving the robe intending to travel together; 3. uncertain giving and the recipient being uncertain, which generates much affliction. Among the four clauses, two clauses: first, both giving and receiving are definitive; second, giving is definitive while receiving is uncertain—taking it back constitutes a grave offense; if both giving and receiving are uncertain, it is a duṣkṛta; 4. forcibly snatching with anger; 5. obtaining the item so that it belongs to oneself, whereupon the offense is committed. Below, the prātimokṣa text is properly clarified. This precept arose from Nanda's fault, for which the Buddha formulated this precept.
