Precept 15: Spreading Saṅgha bedding in a secluded place. / The intention behind its enactment is the same as the preceding one. Six conditions constitute an offense: first, it is Saṅgha property; second, knowing it is Saṅgha property; third, it is in a secluded place; fourth, spreading it for one's own use; fifth, not putting it away upon leaving; sixth, passing the limit, which immediately constitutes the offense. Below, the text of the precept is directly clarified. This precept was enacted because a guest bhikṣu spread bedding to spend the night in an outlying room and departed without informing the manager; the bedding rotted and was ruined, chewed by insects, and changed color. The Buddha therefore enacted the precept.
