[Rule] Twenty-seven: Making a robe for an unrelated nun. Kālodayin made a robe for the nun Guptā; in the central strip he made an image of a man and woman in intercourse. When Guptā came, he took the rolled strip and gave it to her, not allowing her to unroll and view it. Guptā took it back and unrolled it among the nuns; the assembly of nuns criticized and reproached it. For this reason, the precept was formulated: If for an unrelated nun one washes, dyes, or sews, for each and every act one commits a pāyattika for each and every one. If making a stitch with a needle, needle by needle it is a pāyattika; if sewing straight seams, needle by needle it is a duṣkṛta, because it is not in accordance with the Dharma and not fit to be kept. Whether cords, threads, or matting hems, all are duṣkṛta.
