Text of the Karman for Appointing the [Two Persons of] Five Virtues: "Saṅgho suṇātu, bhadantas! If the Saṅgha's time has arrived, may the Saṅgha tolerate and listen. Appoint Bhikṣu So-and-so to act as the recipient of pravāraṇā. Such is the jñapti. Saṅgho suṇātu, bhadantas! The Saṅgha appoints Bhikṣu So-and-so to act as the recipient of pravāraṇā. Whichever elders tolerate that the Saṅgha appoints Bhikṣu So-and-so to act as the recipient of pravāraṇā, remain silent; whoever does not tolerate it, speak! The Saṅgha has already tolerated the appointment of Bhikṣu So-and-so to act as the recipient of pravāraṇā. Because the Saṅgha is silent in tolerance, thus is this matter retained." Rite of Announcing Pravāraṇā to the Saṅgha by the [Bhikṣus of] Five Virtues (Once the [bhikṣus of] five virtues have been appointed, they should go before the sthavira, sit down, and make the jñapti-karman. The text states:) "Saṅgho suṇātu, bhadantas! Today, the fifteenth day of the śuklapakṣa, the Saṅgha holds pravāraṇā. If the Saṅgha's time has arrived, may the Saṅgha tolerate and listen: in harmony, hold pravāraṇā. Such is the jñapti." (If it is the kṛṣṇapakṣa, state it accordingly, as well as the number of days, etc. Having made this jñapti, one should then announce to the assembly, saying: "The Saṅgha should each bare the right shoulder, come forward to the grass seats, kneel with folded hands, and receive pravāraṇā according to the Dharma." Then the two [bhikṣus of] five virtues mutually kneel to receive pravāraṇā; they must not stand and wait for each other.)
