The sixteenth 'furthermore' explains the five meditative attainments of direct observation, divided into six: 1. question; 2. citing the sūtra to answer briefly; 3. explaining the meaning of meditative attainment; 4. briefly subsuming the essential nature; 5. explanation, divided into five: (1) explaining the meditative attainment of direct observation viewing internal impurity; (2) explaining the meditative attainment of direct observation viewing external impurity, divided into two: a. explaining the entity and characteristics; b. explaining the meaning of the sūtra, divided into two: (a) explaining internal and external impurity; (b) observing the transmigration of consciousness; (3) explaining the meditative attainment of direct observation abiding in both lives; (4) explaining the meditative attainment abiding only in the other life; (5) explaining the meditative attainment of direct observation abiding in neither, divided into two: a. explaining its entity; b. conclusion; 6. pointing to the text above.
