Thirty-eighth: Explication of the verse briefly indicating that the mind is defiled over a long time throughout the three times and is devoid of an agent, etc., divided into three: 1. Marking the phrases of the sūtra, divided into two: (1) establishing the cause, divided into three: [a] based on the past, [b] based on the present, [c] based on the future, explaining the cause; (2) revealing the pure fruit. 2. Explaining the text of the sūtra, divided into two: (1) general presentation; (2) explanation, divided into four: [a] based on the past, explaining the mind traveling far, divided into four: i. based on the fruit, ii. based on the cause, iii. based on selflessness, iv. based on being difficult to know, explaining traveling far; [b] based on the present, explaining the mind traveling alone and bodiless, divided into two: i. explaining traveling alone, divided into two: based on being unaccompanied, based on not being simultaneous, explaining traveling alone; ii. explaining being bodiless, divided into six: explaining the meaning of being bodiless, establishing a simile, demonstrating the fundamental meaning, inquiring, answering the reason, and concluding; [c] based on the future, explaining the mind sleeping in a cave, divided into two: establishing the cause, revealing the fruit; [d] based on intelligence, explaining the brāhmaṇa, divided into two: establishing the cause, revealing the fruit. 3.
