Part 2, explaining the distinct characteristics of the characteristics of reflection through mental attention, has five parts: 1. general question; 2. brief answer; 3. questioning; 4. enumeration of names; 5. separate explanations, divided into four:
1. Explaining the characteristic of the focal object has two parts: (1) statement; (2) explanation.
2. Explaining the characteristic of cause and condition has two parts: (1) statement; (2) explanation, which has seven [parts]: a. based on the provisions for meditative stabilization; b. based on the correct teaching; c. based on aspiration; d. based on the phenomena that induce revulsion; e. based on comprehensive knowledge; f. based on being afflicted by distress; g. based on calming and insight, explaining the characteristic of cause and condition, which has two [parts]: (a) explaining the root characteristic of insight; (b) explaining the root characteristic of calming.
3. Explaining the characteristics that should be avoided has three parts: (1) general statement; (2) enumeration of names; (3) separate explanations, divided into four: a. explaining the characteristic of sinking, which has two parts: (a) statement; (b) explanation, divided into two as in the treatise; b. explaining the characteristic of restlessness, which has two parts: (a) statement; (b) explanation, divided into two as in the treatise; c. explaining the characteristic of attachment, which has two parts: (a) statement; (b) explanation, divided into two as in the treatise; d. explaining the characteristic of distraction, which has two parts: (a) statement; (b) explanation, divided into two as in the treatise.
4. Explaining the characteristics that should be cultivated has three parts: (1) statement; (2) explanation; (3) pointing to the text.
