Within the second, the detailed exposition having seven [parts], the fourth—explaining the cultivation of the five faculties—has three [parts]: 1. explaining their arising, which has two [parts]: (1) establishing the cause, (2) revealing the effect; 2. explaining the intrinsic nature and characteristics of the faculties, which has two [parts]: (1) explaining the faculty of faith, which has two [parts]: a. explaining the characteristics of faith, which has three [parts]: (a) establishing the cause, (b) revealing the effect, (c) conclusion; b. explaining the meaning of predominance, which has two [parts]: (i) question, (ii) answer, which has two [parts]: i. explaining the meaning of predominance based on supramundane dharmas, ii. explaining the meaning of predominance based on the four dharmas of vigor and so forth; (2) illustrating the intrinsic nature and characteristics of the remaining four faculties by analogy, which has two [parts]: a. based on supramundane dharmas, b. explaining the intrinsic nature and characteristics of the faculties based on mutual progression; 3. explaining the name, which has two [parts]: (1) explaining the correct meaning, (2) conclusion.
