Third, the section explaining the cultivation of contemplation based on diligently cultivating the contemplation of dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda) through inquiring into the differences of the six topics has three parts: 1. general question; 2. detailed answer; 3. general conclusion. The detailed answer has six parts: 1. explaining the inquiry into the meaning with regard to instances of dependent origination has three parts: (1) establishing the cause; (2) revealing the result has three parts: i. discerning the [...] category; ii. discerning the pure category; iii. discerning non-self (anātman); (3) conclusion; 2. explaining the inquiry into the fact with regard to instances of dependent origination has three parts: (1) establishing what is inquired into; (2) establishing what inquires; (3) conclusion; 3. explaining the inquiry into the characteristics with regard to instances of dependent origination has two parts: (1) inquiring into the particular characteristic; (2) inquiring into the common characteristic has two parts: i. explaining the correct meaning has four parts, as in the treatise; ii. conclusion; 4. explaining the inquiry into the categories with regard to instances of dependent origination has three parts: (1) explaining the inquiry into the dark category; (2) explaining the inquiry into the bright category; (3) conclusion; 5. explaining the inquiry into time with regard to instances of dependent origination has four parts: (1) inquiring into the past; (2) inquiring into the present; (3) inquiring into the future; (4) conclusion; 6. explaining the inquiry into the principles with regard to instances of dependent origination has four parts, as in the treatise.
