The second gate, on the three factors of dwelling with clear comprehension in looking ahead and looking around (ālokita-vilokita), has four parts: 1. General presentation of the sūtra phrases; 2. Specific questions, divided into three as in the treatise; 3. Specific answers, divided into three: (1) Answering the characteristics of looking ahead, divided into three: a. Presentation, b. Explanation, c. Conclusion; (2) Answering the characteristics of looking around, divided into three: a. Presentation, b. Explanation, divided into two: (a) Establishing the cause, (b) Revealing the fruit, divided into three: <i> Based on the sentient, <ii> Based on the non-sentient, <iii> Revealing the fruit based on the sentient and non-sentient; c. Conclusion; (3) Answering the characteristics of dwelling with clear comprehension, divided into two: a. Clarifying the characteristics of clear comprehension, divided into two: (a) Clarifying the correct meaning, divided into four: <i> Based on intrinsic nature, <ii> Based on locus, <iii> Based on time, <iv> Clarifying the meaning of clear comprehension based on variety of modalities; (b) Conclusion; b. Clarifying the benefits of clear comprehension, divided into four: (a) Based on intrinsic nature, (b) Based on locus, (c) Based on time, (d) Clarifying benefits based on variety of modalities; 4. General conclusion.
