Within the fourth [section], the extensive explanation in nine [parts] of the Chapter on Morality, the fourth, explaining the morality of all gates, has four parts: 1. general question; 2. brief answer; 3. listing the names, with four parts as in the treatise; 4. detailed explanation in four parts: (1) explaining the correctly received morality based on the application of this life, with two parts: a. presentation, b. explanation; (2) explaining the innate morality based on beginningless seeds, with two parts: a. presentation, b. explanation; (3) explaining the cultivated morality based on correctly cultivating beginningless seeds, with two parts: a. presentation, b. explanation, with two parts: (a) establishing the cause, (b) revealing the fruit, with two parts: i. revealing the fruit based on revulsion toward evil, ii. revealing the fruit based on delighting in goodness; (4) explaining the morality associated with skillful means based on the source of the arising of precepts, with two parts: a. presentation, b. explanation, with two parts: (a) establishing the cause, (b) revealing the fruit.
