分七中二答第二問云何善友所作不虛德相分二。一總標。二別釋分五。一依於他無欲求作利益德明善友所作不虛。二依於彼利益無顛倒覺德明善友所作不虛。三依於彼善護方便有能有力德明善友所作不虛。四依心無厭倦德明善友所作不虛。五依平等大悲德明善友所作不虛。

Of the seven parts, 2. answering the second question, 'What are the characteristic virtues of a good spiritual friend whose actions are not in vain?', has two [parts]: (1) general statement; (2) specific explanation, which has five [parts]: [a] explaining that a good spiritual friend's actions are not in vain based on the virtue of working for others' benefit without desire; [b] explaining that a good spiritual friend's actions are not in vain based on the virtue of having non-erroneous discernment regarding their benefit; [c] explaining that a good spiritual friend's actions are not in vain based on the virtue of being capable and powerful in skillful means of protecting them well; [d] explaining that a good spiritual friend's actions are not in vain based on the virtue of a mind free from weariness; [e] explaining that a good spiritual friend's actions are not in vain based on the virtue of impartial great compassion.
