In the third main section, the detailed explanation in prose, which has sixteen [parts], the ninth explains the factors conducive to awakening based on diligently cultivating the thirty-seven factors conducive to awakening, divided into three: 1. general inquiry, 2. brief answer, divided into two: (1) establishing the cause, (2) showing the fruit, 3. extensively differentiating the distinctions in the cultivation of the factors conducive to awakening between the two vehicles, divided into two: (1) brief explanation, divided into two: [a] presentation, [b] explanation; (2) detailed explanation, divided into two: [a] pointing to the characteristics of cultivating the factors conducive to awakening in the lesser vehicle, [b] explaining the meaning of cultivating the factors conducive to awakening based on the principles of the Great Vehicle, divided into two: a. general inquiry, b. detailed answer, divided into two: i. explaining the cultivation of the applications of mindfulness and other factors based on the two truths, divided into three: [i] explaining the cultivation of the mindfulness of the body based on the principles of ultimate truth, divided into two: {i} establishing the correct meaning, divided into two: based on one's own benefit, and based on universal characteristics establishing the correct meaning; {ii} conclusion; [ii] explaining the cultivation of the mindfulness of the body based on the principles of conventional truth, divided into two: {i} establishing the correct meaning, {ii} conclusion; [iii] by analogy with the two truths, explaining the cultivation of the remaining applications of mindfulness, the correct abandonments, and other factors conducive to awakening; ii. explaining knowing the applications of mindfulness and other factors as they truly are based on the principles of the two truths, divided into two: [i] explaining knowing the applications of mindfulness and other factors as they truly are based on the principles of ultimate truth, divided into two: {i} explaining the correct meaning, divided into two: establishing the correct meaning based on specific characteristics, divided into four: explaining knowing as it truly is based on the truth of suffering, explaining knowing as it truly is based on the truth of origination, explaining knowing as it truly is based on the truth of cessation, and explaining knowing as it truly is based on the truth of the path; and establishing the correct meaning based on universal characteristics, divided into four as in the treatise; {ii} conclusion; [ii] explaining knowing the applications of mindfulness and other factors as they truly are based on the principles of conventional truth, divided into two: {i} establishing the correct meaning, {ii} conclusion.
