Within the thirty divisions, the twenty-second, explaining the meaning of "bound to the three realms" regarding the skandhas, has two different approaches. The first approach, based on the two factors of having not yet attained and having already attained the antidote, explains the meaning of being bound to the three realms in three parts: 1. explaining the meaning of being bound to the desire realm, having two parts: (1) a general inquiry, having two parts as in the treatise, (2) a detailed answer, having two parts: a. answering [regarding] its svabhāva, having two parts as in the treatise, b. answering [regarding] their number; 2. explaining the meaning of being bound to the form realm, having two parts: (1) a general inquiry, having two parts as in the treatise, (2) a detailed answer, having two parts: a. answering [regarding] its svabhāva, having three parts as in the treatise, b. answering [regarding] their number; 3. explaining the meaning of being bound to the formless [realm], having two parts: (1) a general inquiry, having two parts as in the treatise, (2) a detailed answer, having two parts: a. answering [regarding] its svabhāva, having three parts as in the treatise, b. answering [regarding] their number. The second approach, based on the three factors of not having attained pliancy, meditative stabilization, and so forth, explains the meaning of being bound to the three realms in two parts: 1. a general presentation; 2. an individual explanation, having three parts: (1) explaining the meaning of being bound to the desire realm, having three parts as in the treatise, (2) explaining the meaning of being bound to the form realm, (3) explaining the meaning of being bound to the formless realm.
