第一明眼等三識依各別分二識當言一二義分四。一總問。二廣答。三徵。四答所以分二。一依有障無障等立所以分二如論。二依非如色法立所以。

The first, explaining the meaning of whether the three consciousnesses of eye and so forth should be said to be one or two based on each respective division into two [bases], has four [subparts]: 1. general question; 2. detailed answer; 3. inquiry; 4. answering the reason, having two [points]: (1) establishing the reason based on having obstruction, lacking obstruction, and so forth, having two [points] as in the treatise; (2) establishing the reason based on not being like material dharmas.
