緣染淨事依彼轉故者。謂前六識緣染淨事起染淨相而成相轉。雖行施等不能亡相。皆由染意為識依止。彼未滅時相了別轉。末那滅已相轉解脫。故前六識緣染淨事。皆依末那而得成立。

Regarding 'Because taking defiled and pure objects as conditions functions in reliance upon it': this means that the first six consciousnesses, conditioned by defiled and pure affairs, produce defiled and pure characteristics and operate in the form of characteristics. Even when practicing giving and so forth, they cannot obliterate characteristics, all because the defiled mind serves as the basis for consciousness. When it is not yet eradicated, discernment of characteristics operates; after manas is eradicated, there is liberation from the operation of characteristics. Therefore, the first six consciousnesses conditioning defiled and pure affairs are all established in reliance upon manas.
