"The Kośa additionally adds greed, anger, conceit, and doubt, and the grounds in which they exist," and so forth: "indeterminate regarding grounds" means that they are not like those sarva-mahābhūmika-dharmas, each of which universally permeates all grounds of mind; the kuśala-mahābhūmika-dharmas permeate the wholesome grounds, and the kleśa-mahābhūmika-dharmas permeate the defiled grounds. Therefore, they are spoken of as indeterminate regarding the grounds. "Indeterminate regarding seeing and cultivation" refers to having both kinds of abandonment by seeing and by cultivation. Among the afflictions, conceit is severed only by cultivation, doubt is severed only by seeing, and remorse is severed by cultivation; therefore, they are called indeterminate regarding seeing and cultivation. "The mental factors in the various states are also indeterminate": for instance, in the desire realm there are four states of mind, namely wholesome, unwholesome, obstructed-indeterminate, and unobstructed-indeterminate. Among the mental factors in these four states, the presence or absence of the previous eight is indeterminate. Therefore, these eight are given the name indeterminate.
