1.74

縱色現前盲不見者。意顯眼識不依色起。若說眼識定依色起。色現前時盲者應見。雖無色時眼識不生。以色比根依根義勝。根若壞時識必不起。縱有色時盲不見故。

Regarding 'Even if form is present, a blind person does not see it': the intention is to reveal that the eye consciousness does not arise in reliance upon form. If one says that the eye consciousness definitely arises in reliance upon form, then when form is present, a blind person should see it. Although the eye consciousness does not arise when form is absent, comparing form to the faculty, the sense of relying on the faculty is superior. When the faculty is impaired, the consciousness definitely does not arise, because even when form is present, a blind person cannot see it.
