Treatise: "What are the two? [The first is coarse, because it is concordant with the mind. The second is fine, because it is not concordant with the mind.]"
Exposition: This lists the names and presents the distinction. What is called "coarse" refers to the preceding three defilements, because they possess the coarsely manifest characteristics of mental dharmas and mental concomitants. "Because it is concordant with the mind" explains the meaning of coarse: it means that objects and mental concomitants are concordant with these three kinds of mind. What is called "fine" refers to the subsequent three defilements, because they lack the coarsely manifest characteristics of mental dharmas and mental concomitants. "Because it is not concordant with the mind" explains the meaning of fine: it means that those mental concomitants and various objects are not concordant with the three fine minds.
