2.63

論。復次真如至發大慈悲　述曰。上明體相。下顯用大。於中有二。初總明。後別釋。總中有二。初對果舉因。後牒因顯果。初中亦二。初悲。後智。悲中有三。初顯起用因。次因悲起行。後因悲立願。此初也。諸佛如來本因地者。此明能起用大之人。即初發心凡夫人也。依因此人發用大故。發大慈悲者。此明所起用大之因。大悲發用大故。

[Treatise:] Furthermore, suchness ... gives rise to great compassion.
[Exposition:] Above, essence and attributes were clarified; below, the greatness of function is revealed. In this, there are two parts: first, a general explanation, and second, distinct explanations. In the general part, there are two: first, stating the cause in contrast to the fruit; second, taking up the cause to reveal the fruit. In the first there are also two: first compassion, and then wisdom. In compassion there are three: first, revealing the cause of arising function; next, engaging in practice based on compassion; and finally, establishing vows based on compassion. This is the first. 'The original causal stage of the Buddhas, Tathāgatas' clarifies the person who can give rise to the greatness of function—that is, the ordinary person who has newly generated the mind [for awakening]. It is by relying on this person that the greatness of function arises. 'Gives rise to great compassion' clarifies the cause of the greatness of function that is given rise to: because great compassion gives rise to the greatness of function.
