[Treatise:] [The practitioner of] the suchness samādhi [... afflictions gradually become faint and thin]. [Exposition:] This shows that the internal concentration is correct. That is to say, since one has already distanced all marks, because of the suchness samādhi, within concentration one is free from characteristics of the mind and free from characteristics of reality; hence it says "not dwelling in the marks of views or the marks of attainment." If one is in a distracted state of mind, one does not give rise to laxity toward wholesome deeds, nor does one rely on concentration to be arrogant toward wholesome dharmas; hence it says "emerging from concentration, there is also neither laxity nor arrogance." Because concentration accords with truth and diminishes the power of the seeds of afflictions, when emerging from concentration, active afflictions do not arise; hence it says "afflictions [gradually become] faint and thin."
