[Treatise:] One should know that [samādhis of] heterodox paths [... fame, profit, and veneration]. [Exposition:] Next is the fourth [section], distinguishing the true from the false in calm. Within this there are two: first, raising the two concentrations of the heterodox and Buddhist to distinguish the heterodox from the correct; second, contrasting the two concentrations of principle and phenomena to clarify the true and the false. In the former there are again two: first, clarifying heterodox concentration; second, showing correct concentration. That is to say, the samādhis attained by those of heterodox paths cannot be free from conceptual afflictions, and they frequently give rise to various views. Moreover, they are not free from innate afflictions, and they frequently give rise to indulgence. Furthermore, because they do not subdue cognitive obscurations and rely on concentration to generate arrogance, it says they are "not free from views, craving, and arrogance." Because they do not subdue afflictions and covet fame and profit, it says "coveting fame, profit," and so forth.
