5.81

論。或令人知至名利之事　釋曰。此第二所得通辨對也。知宿命等即宿命通。知未來事天眼耳通。得他心知則他心通。新論但名他心事。辨才無礙得□辨魔等神力加被。眾生得此曰證得。為已有便生喜動。我慢心生貪著名利壞善行也。

Treatise: "Or they may cause people to know... [down to] ...matters of fame and gain." Commentary: This is the second pair: the acquired supernormal powers and eloquence. Knowing past lives and so forth is the supernormal power of past lives. Knowing future events is the supernormal powers of divine eye and divine ear. Attaining knowledge of others' minds is the supernormal power of knowing others' minds; the new treatise simply calls it "matters of others' minds." Eloquence without obstruction is attaining [...] eloquence empowered by the supernatural power of māras and the like. When sentient beings attain this, they say they have realised it; taking it as their own, they give rise to agitation and delight, the mind of self-conceit arises, and they greedily cling to fame and gain, destroying wholesome practice.
