[Treatise:] What does this mean?
[Commentary:] This is the inquiry regarding whether they have an end or not. Since the perfuming of defilement and purity both exist from beginningless time, why does defiled perfuming have an end while pure perfuming is without interruption? Only when defilement and purity depend upon each other is the meaning of perfuming established; if purity had no defilement, it would not constitute an active perfumer. If one has already attained buddhahood, there are no defiled dharmas; since there is nothing to be perfumed, there is also no pure perfuming. How can it be said that pure perfuming is without interruption? To reveal these two challenges, it therefore says, "What does this mean?"
