[Treatise:] For they take all [sentient beings as their own self, yet do not grasp at the characteristic of] sentient beings. [Commentary:] Next, it explains wisdom below. In this there are two parts: first, revealing the cognition of the identical substance of self and other; later, explaining the reason for the cognition of identical substance. This is the first. "Taking sentient beings as their own self" reveals obtaining the thought that gathers others as identical to oneself. "Yet do not grasp at the characteristic of sentient beings" means not seeing sentient beings existing outside oneself. Through the cognition of equality, they take sentient beings as their own self; although they vow to liberate sentient beings, they also do not see distinct characteristics of sentient beings.
