論問有何因緣而造此論答曰是因緣有八種云何為八　述曰。下答有三。初舉數總答。次依數辨義。後結答所問。此初也。

[Treatise:] Question: For what causes and conditions is this treatise composed? Answer: Such causes and conditions are of eight kinds. What are the eight? [Commentary:] The answer below has three parts: first, stating the number as a general answer; next, distinguishing the meanings according to the number; later, concluding with the answer to what was asked. This is the first part.
