1.18

佛藏經云。佛告舍利弗。我餘經說。若人見法是為見我。如來非法亦非非法（不順有相不依無相即是見法。見法者見本性）何以故。調達愚人及諸外道。皆以色身見佛。舍利弗。如來不應以色身見。亦復不應以音聲見。舍利弗。若人以色身見佛。是去佛遠。所以者何。佛不名見名為見佛（不依有見無見即是不依正見）。

The Buddhapiṭaka-sūtra states: The Buddha addressed Śāriputra: "In other sūtras I have preached that if someone sees the Dharma, they see me. The Tathāgata is neither dharma nor non-dharma. (Not conforming to having marks and not relying on marklessness is seeing the Dharma. One who sees the Dharma sees the original nature.) Why is this? Devadatta, foolish people, and all tīrthikas all saw the Buddha by his physical form. Śāriputra, the Tathāgata should not be seen by his physical form, nor should he be seen by sound. Śāriputra, if someone sees the Buddha by his physical form, they are far removed from the Buddha. Why is this? The Buddha is not called seeing; [only this] is called seeing the Buddha (not relying on views of existence or non-existence is not relying on right view)."
