1.163

若存乎法我等者。若如花嚴涅槃二經存乎法我。則外道教同於內宗。足可依據。若如般若觸類皆空。修行之典徒欲修習。言日親者。即謂佛教。依而修行日親道故。未詳本意。且述愚情。後有智者改而正也。

Regarding 'If one preserves the dharma and the self,' etc.: If, like the two sūtras Avataṃsaka and Nirvāṇa, one preserves the dharma and the self, then the non-Buddhist teachings would be identical to our inner school, which would be sufficient to rely upon. If, like Prajñā, whatever is encountered is empty, then the scriptures of practice are vainly cultivated. The phrase 'approaching daily' refers to the Buddha's teachings; because by practicing in reliance on them one daily approaches the Path. Not having fully grasped the original intention, I merely state my foolish sentiment; let later wise ones correct and rectify it.
