"Capable of eliminating the heat stage of the path of seeing..." and so forth means: the wisdom of the path of seeing has three grades, and the lower-grade path is called "heat" because its initial arising has feeble power. The conceptually differentiated afflictions severed by this path, being coarse and fierce, are not called "heat." Therefore, the expression "grade of heat" refers only to the path of seeing itself; the conceptually differentiated afflictions are simply what is severed by the heat grade of the path of seeing, hence called the coarseness of afflictions severed by the path of seeing. According to the Abhidharmasamuccaya-vyākhyā, afflictions and paths are each divided into nine grades, namely heat-heat, etc., such that the heat-heat path severs the upper-upper afflictions, and the upper-upper path severs the heat-heat afflictions. Here it is only spoken of generally.
