Regarding "first, the view of individuality (satkāya-dṛṣṭi)" and so forth: grasping is a secondary affliction, for all afflictions are called grasping. The aggregates are produced from grasping, and are therefore called the grasping aggregates (upādāna-skandha). These are what the older commentaries call the "five thriving aggregates." Because through the power of afflictions the aggregates rage fiercely. The term "grasping" for the aggregates is to exclude untainted aggregates, for the view of self arises only in reliance on tainted aggregates. Now, regarding the body of the grasping aggregates, this view of self either grasps two as the self, or grasps one as the self and grasps the rest as what belongs to the self. Because its grasping is not fixed, it is called a "shifting body."
