染慧為性等者。然五惡見皆用別境慧為體性。然別境慧通於三性。今取二性故言染慧。染通不善有覆無記。覆即是染。障聖道故。故惡及覆皆名染也。

Regarding "having defiled discernment as its nature" and so forth: all five pernicious views take discernment among the object-determining [mental factors] as their essential nature. Now, object-determining discernment extends across the three natures. Here, taking two natures, it says "defiled discernment." "Defiled" extends to the unwholesome and the obscured indeterminate. The obscured is indeed defiled, because it obstructs the noble path. Therefore both evil and obscured are called "defiled."
